Students learn about relational databases then build one themselves for a sports or gaming competition. Data dictionaries, relationships, schemas, foreign keys, SQL statements and aggregate functions are all tackled through supported tasks. We look at lossy and lossless compression in JPG and PNG images, as well as codecs for video and audio files. Students use online software to visualise data then investigate advanced spreadsheet tools such as absolute referencing, trigonometry and financial functions. They build iterative models for compound interest and ecological populations then finish up having fun with encryption, secret keys and hashing algorithms.<\/p>\n
